Scavenger hunt follow up

You know you are a rookie when you find yourself attempting to stop kids from screaming. Sigh, I guess I’m forgiven. to repeat something I said as a side note during the hunt, “I often ask myself whether to act or ignore them.” Yes, we were short mentors, it was a successful hullabaloo. Glad they all had fun, even the bee survived its bumbling around the classroom. Yeah, thats where the screaming came from. lala, well enough of that. Halloween party coming up this month. I need a costume. i was told to go as ‘L’, but mm yes it’d work, I’d just have to play the part. Hmm, all the sugar I can eat, that sounds both dangerous and fun. I’ll take pictures.

Mentorship Program Scavenger Hunt

Ooh, I get to take the kids around campus finding all the cool places for food games, etc. Good times. I’d take pictures, but I’m not sure of that. Last week wasn’t too special, we got to know each other a little bit. Mm 2 hours is so little time for that. Otherwise I’m just more or less peeved at the news, I think I’ll do weekend updates so I won’t drown my blog in social bitch-fests even tho I’m only stating the obvious.

Mentorship program updated

My social skills are very easy going and patient unless I’m not being patient. I guess I feel I need to interact more often than I should and kids take that rule more seriously than adults. In the end I need to forgo my easy going speech style and address the topic once an opening is available. I think I did well, but truth be told I’m the rookie and these two 4th graders are smart and experienced. I will learn much from them about the program. I hope the first day can be forgiven for its awkwardness and I also hope my first impression wasn’t too bad. I tend to be laid back and that troubles people sometimes. I see other mentors being more open and enthusiastic, but thats not me. I wonder if it’d be a self betrayal to make myself exhibit those aspects. I could try, never hurt too much doing that.

Well, today I start the Mentorship program

Back in the day I used to take care of kids in the after school program at my grade school. I’d just play with toys etc, was quite silly. I still remmeber the lego battles we’d have. We’d build robots or mecha if you prefer and punch each other’s toy hoping for the most damage. One kid took me out by doing a circle around me, my arm was made useless at some point and I couldn’t counter attack so meh. Nicely done for what it was. i tended to win of course, I love legos. My only regret is, I never got to test out that experimental one using only 4 peg square blocks. So with that said, today I will be looking after some early grade schoolers, being their big buddy etc. by doing this I hope to pad my resume, learn some tricks of the trade and whatever other enjoyment may come of it. i do enjoy the mind of a young child, they understand more than you’d think. Often they have a concept they understand, but have no knowledge on how to convey. I remember that from my own childhood. I’m also trying to get a katakana quiz game thing going, but on short notice and being an unofficial group (papers in the mail..) this proves difficult. Although only as difficult as I guessed at. I can’t schedule it, but I can wing it.
